frequently asked questions
Answers to frequently asked questions at UGO Cycle
Installation and compatibility
Can I install it myself?
Yes, it is possible to electrify your bike yourself, and we're here to guide you through the process with personalized tutorials and advice. However, in most cases, we recommend using a certified fitter. As well as having all the necessary tools, a certified fitter will guarantee a safe and compliant installation.
Is it possible to install the UGO Cycle conversion kit on a carbon bike?
We do not offer conversion of carbon bikes due to the brittle and fragile nature of this material. However, bikes with carbon inserts in places other than the bottom bracket, such as the fork, can be converted without problem.
How do I electrify my fat bike with my conversion kit?
UGO Cycle offers a conversion kit specially adapted to fat bikes, with bottom bracket dimensions of 100 or 120 mm. However, due to the specific geometry of this type of bike, we recommend that you contact us for a more in-depth assessment of compatibility and available options.
Does the installation of a conversion kit require permanent modifications to my bike?
Absolutely not. In the vast majority of cases, our solution offers the advantage of being installed without requiring any permanent structural modifications, such as welding or sawing, to your bike. What's more, if necessary, the electric conversion kit can be uninstalled, allowing you to return your bike to its original state. This flexibility is a considerable advantage, especially if you plan to resell your bike while keeping your electrification kit.
How easy is it to install the conversion kit on different types of bikes?
The UGO CYCLE electric conversion kit is a solution that can be successfully installed on around 95% conventional bikes with bottom bracket widths between 68 and 73mm. Therein lies the ingenuity of UGO CYCLE's universal solution.
Sometimes wear and tear or misshapen parts (pedals, chains, etc.) require adjustment or replacement. If your bike is a little out of the ordinary, UGO CYCLE can adapt it at very low cost.
How much weight does the conversion kit add to my bike?
The UGO CYCLE conversion kit generally adds a maximum of 15lbs of extra weight to your bike. This weight includes the pedal motor block, which weighs 7.5 lbs, and the battery, which weighs 7 and 8 lbs depending on the model chosen. It's important to note that the battery is removable, and we recommend that you remove it for all handling operations, which reduces the weight of the kit by half and makes lifting and transporting the bike easier.
Will I still be able to use my derailleurs during the conversion?
When you convert to the UGO CYCLE kit, you generally retain the use of your rear derailleur. This can still be used to help your motor perform better, depending on the gradient encountered, so you can benefit from assistance tailored to your needs. However, as the entire crankset is replaced in the conversion process, the central derailleur will be removed. For example, on a bike equipped with 24 gears (3 central chainrings and 8 at the rear), the electric bike will become an 8-speed bike.
